Each night, your comforter dry cleaning becomes more filthy, unseen by the naked eye. The body naturally loses dead skin cells, along with sweat and other fluids, as you sleep.

Every night, when you sleep, you lose between a quarter and a half a litre of water. After being soaked, your comforter’s fabric expands, making it unusable until it dries. Moisture evaporates during the day, causing the material to contract once more. Over time, this wears down the blanket to the point that it is less effective at keeping you warm.

You also lose between 0.5–1.5 grammes of skin per night. Skin flakes are a favourite food of house dust mites. Despite being undetectable by the human eye, house dust mites can trigger unpleasant allergic reactions like wheezing, itchy eyes, and shortness of breath. The thought of a half a million crawling animals making their home in your blanket is enough to give anyone the creeps, even if they aren’t allergic.

Although you may change your sheets and pillowcases weekly, how often do you change the comforter?

Once or twice a year, Dhobi London suggests taking your comforter in for a professional cleaning.

Do you recommend washing or dry cleaning your comforter?

The material of your comforter will determine whether it is better to wash it or dry clean it. Wool, down, and synthetic comforters are the three most popular options. There’s a unique upkeep procedure for each substance. To guarantee that your blanket retains its heat and fluffiness through multiple washes, it is important to carefully follow the care recommendations provided.

Duvets made of wool need to be dry cleaned.

Wool possesses a covering of lanolin that is soft, protective, and water resistant; yet, wool also shrinks when exposed to water.

Comforters, both down and synthetic, need to be laundered often.

Unlike down comforters, synthetic ones may be laundered in the washing machine. However, simply shoving your blanket into a regular or small washing machine won’t do the trick. Also, a sizable clothes dryer is required.

As a result, you should either take your duvet to the laundromat or get it cleaned professionally.
